The Rebel Missionary

Step into the heart-wrenching world of the first country in the
Western Hemisphere to win freedom from European colonial
powers. Through stunning original visuals, and a single
intimate interview, this documentary uncovers truths about
Haiti. Through the work of one medical missionary, who has
made 37 trips to Haiti, we examine the ethical and historical
dilemmas that face the people today

Can the narrative be changed? Will our missionary--now in her
seventies-- find a way to fulfill her last mission: one last trip to
the island.

This movie will premier at the 2026 Denton Black Film Festival.  January 28th - February 1st. You can view virtually February 1st - 8th.

BELIEVE IN THE LOVE AND SPIRIT OF THE CHURCH

AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY FOR ALL WHO

And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;  For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: Ephesians 4:11-13

And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."  Matthew 16:17-19

THE CHURCH METHOD

The call to worship can vary by denomination, but many of the same spiritual traditions have lived in the black church for centuries. The documentary and discussion will explore topics of spirituality, rituals, powers, and leadership in the black church.

"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."

Colossians 3:16

THE CHURCH MISSION

Some of them lead churches steeped in civil rights history. Others started their congregations from scratch. And a few have broken the glass ceiling in their respective denominations but they were necessary.

"How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!"

Romans 10:14-15

THE CHURCH MESSAGE

The message of God as proclaimed in the Bible and taught in the African-American church is YET that the church is who we are not where we attend.

"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Matthew 7:21-23
